AMD Q3 revenue hits $13.4B as data center sales jump 97%

AMD (Advanced Micro Devices) reported third-quarter revenue of $13.4 billion in results released on November 3 (local time). That was up 45% from a year earlier, and the data center segment, which includes AI accelerators, rose 97% to $8.5 billion.

The company said data center growth was driven by its EPYC server processors and the launch of its Instinct MI450 series GPUs (graphics processing units, accelerators used for AI computing). The client and gaming segment fell 8% to $3.7 billion. Within it, client revenue rose 7% to $2.9 billion, while gaming fell 40% to $773 million. Embedded rose 29% to $1.1 billion.

Gross margin was 54% on a GAAP basis and 56% on a non-GAAP basis. Net income was $2.4 billion on a GAAP basis (diluted earnings per share of $1.46) and $3.5 billion on a non-GAAP basis ($2.09). For the fourth quarter, the company forecast revenue of about $17 billion (±3%) and a non-GAAP gross margin of about 55%.

AMD said Helios, its MI450-based rack-scale system, is running workloads at Anthropic, Meta, Microsoft, OpenAI and Oracle Cloud Infrastructure. Lisa Su, AMD chair and chief executive officer (CEO), said it was a record quarter, with revenue exceeding the top end of guidance.

The figures show that AI data center investment is also flowing into the results of chipmakers other than Nvidia. Data center now accounts for more than half of total revenue, in contrast to the decline in gaming.
